![]() The Intel iGPUs have video decoders for some formats, as do the Apple Silicon chips, so they can often be quite fast for video, sometimes faster than a separate GPU. It is difficult to know how much the typical GPU benchmarks relate to photo oriented programs such as Topaz, DXO, etc. The Iris Xe does not seem to have this problem, with our LG Gram 17, but GPU benchmarks for it are not stunning. This was with an HP Envy 15, which probably does not have the world's best thermal design. My experience with the UHD 620 (and i7-7700HQ) is that it drops frames with 2K HD video, imperceptibly until the fan starts blowing, and stutters badly with 4K UHD video. Thank you for your input Henry, and many thanks to all who replied to the thread with great information! For Topaz Denoise AI it is the opposite though. Even my lower power Intel UHD 620 works reasonably fast using Topaz Sharpen AI and is faster than my Nividia MX250 2gb. For programs such as Topaz and DXO it will work pretty well, but a beefier one such as an RTX 3050, etc. The Iris Xe GPU is fine for Lightroom, I think. Bought another 16gb stick to get to 32gb. One other good point in 2019 is that mine had 2 RAM slots: 16gb stick and an empty slot. ![]() ![]() My current one has an ethernet port, but this new one doesn't. It uses an 11th gen Intel though, not 12th gen. Need more power for the GPU and faster CPU. My current power brick is a small 65 watt unit, but this 16" model uses a larger 130 watt unit. I would want to get 32gb like my current laptop, but that, unfortunately, means taking out the 16gb (two 8gb sticks).ĭimensions are almost exactly the same as my current 15.6" Dell. That Dell Inspiron 16 Plus looks pretty good, especially the model with the RTX 3050. Some of the ones I have found I like better in one or two areas (mostly speed running Topaz), but then are worse in many other areas (for me) and the way I use my computers. I am still using my 2019 15.6" Dell Inspiron and even though I have tried to find something here in Japan for the last year I have not found anything that I like better. It's an awesome spec'ed system for not a bunch of money. The 16 plus is the best bang for the buck in PC notebooks today. I've had good luck with my Dell laptops, and I think Dell makes similar alternative PCs in the Inspiron 17 and Inspiron 16 Plus respectively.
